JOB SUMMARY:
Naturalist Interns provide instruction to fifth and sixth grade students on the local ecology of the mountains above Santa Barbara, CA.
WHAT THAT REALLY MEANS:
- Lead 5 curriculum hikes (plant, animal, geology, night, and Chumash) and 3 special activities (9 mile hike, waterfall hike, archery, etc.) each week.
- Work on a curriculum team to create new lesson plans, activities, and resources for their subject area
- Create special activities that provide students with a direct experience with nature.
- Complete an independent project during assigned time that supports the program
- Supervise/assist/lead meal time, journal writing, recreation, and showers.
- Team player
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Four-year degree in natural history, science, education or related subject.
- Two years experience in providing instruction to children in a science school or outdoor education setting.
DETAILS:
- Salary: $60.00/day (4 day week) plus room and board
- Two month position (chance to work longer at higher pay)

- Work on a curriculum team to create new lesson plans, activities, and resources for their subject area.
- Develop lessons and activities that provide students with a direct experience with the natural world.
- Complete an independent project during assigned time that supports the program.
- Supervise/assist/lead meal time, journal writing, recreation, and showers.
- Be part of an amazing team in a beautiful setting!
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Four-year degree in natural history, science, education or related
- subject.
- Two years experience in providing instruction to children in a science school or outdoor education setting.
DETAILS:
- Salary: $300—450 DOE per 4-day week plus room and board
- Health Stipend of $330/month after one year of employment
