The Outdoor School at Rancho Alegre
Who We Are
The Outdoor School has been the central coast’s premier outdoor education center since 1952. The Outdoor School offers a residential 4-day, 3-night program (or) 2-day, 1-night program for 5th and 6th grade students, field trips for students from kindergarten to university, teacher in-services, and more. We educate over 4,000 fifth and sixth graders each year.
Where is The Outdoor School
The Outdoor School is located across from Lake Cachuma on Highway 154 (about 20 miles north of Santa Barbara, CA) at Rancho Alegre. Rancho Alegre is 213 acres of chaparral, oak woodland and riparian forests surrounded by US Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management and California State land.
Mission Statement
The mission of the Outdoor School is to facilitate the development of community and environmental stewardship through a direct, hands-on experience with nature. The Outdoor School strives to teach participants the values of respect for nature, other people, and themselves.
